Media Release - Archerfield Airport Draft Master Plan Approved

(31/07/17)

The Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Darren Chester, has approved Archerfield Airport’s Draft Master Plan (2017 – 2037).

The Plan will guide the ongoing development of the airport into a modern, world-class facility to serve as a centre of excellence for aeronautical and related activities and the focus of general and corporate aviation in South East Queensland.

Public submissions to the draft closed in February, and formal approval of the Plan this month paves the way for further investment at the airport.

(04/09/17)

The internationally renowned RAAF Roulettes aerobatic display team will be a highlight of Brisbane Open House at Archerfield Airport next month.

The free aerial display starts at 10am on Saturday, October 7, 2017 and features world-class formation flying, with the Roulettes’ Pilatus PC-9/A aircraft flying as close as 3m apart, up to speeds of 460km per hour, and as low as 80m.

Brisbane Open House at the airport this year celebrates Archerfield’s long history, its many achievements and future plans. Media Release - New Life for Former RQAC Premises

(05/06/17)

Basair Aviation College will occupy the former Royal Queensland Aero Club (RQAC) premises at Archerfield Airport following an exhaustive Expression of Interest process conducted by Jones Lang LaSalle for Archerfield Airport Corporation (AAC).

Basair is Australia’s largest flying school and provides flight training for Griffith University’s Graduate Diploma, Boeing’s Pilot Development Program and Diploma courses where students may be eligible for VET Student Loans.

Basair has leased the Aviation Student Accommodation and Training Complex at Archerfield Airport since 2014. With the complex fully occupied for the first time and the College operating at maximum capacity, the College needs more space to expand.

Basair will also launch Brisbane Aviators, based on their very successful Sydney Aviators operation, to service South East Queensland pilots who want to learn to fly for fun. The RQAC premises have been vacant since RQAC went into voluntary administration in March 2016. AAC plans for RQAC club members to maintain a presence at Archerfield Airport.

Media Release - Preliminary Draft Master Plan Consultation Open

(09/11/16)

A Preliminary Draft Master Plan (2017 – 2037) for the ongoing development of Archerfield Airport is now open for public comment.

The 2017 plan is fundamentally consistent with the current approved plan (2011 – 2031) with some further refinements including:

  • The Master Plan and environment strategy are now a single report, removing duplication and aligning documentation with 2010 amendments to the Airports Act.

  • Planning information has been revised, consistent with current planning strategies, policies and controls, reflecting State Planning Policy and Brisbane City Plan amendments.

  • Additional information about ground transport includes details of anticipated traffic generation from airport developments in the initial planning period; anticipated works to provide safe and efficient access to airport developments; other opportunities to improve the adjacent road network (to cater for increased traffic); and opportunities to integrate City Plan bicycle routes.

  • A Brisbane City Council/State Government proposal to relink Boundary Road across the middle of the airport (as it previously existed and as foreshadowed in previous master plans) has been removed. This work is no longer required following the creation of Barton Street.

Archerfield Airport General Manager, Heather Mattes, said the Master Plan would ensure that the airport continued to evolve into a modern, world-class facility that will serve as a centre of excellence for aeronautical and related activities and the focus of general and corporate aviation in South East Queensland.

Ms Mattes said while there were no material changes to the new Master Plan, projects foreshadowed in the current approved plan would be carried forward. These are: ........
