Historic aviation moment at Archerfield Airport

(22/12/09)

An historic 1943 DC-4 airliner that underwent restoration at Archerfield Airport took to Brisbane skies on Monday, December 21, 2009 after eight years on the ground.

A team from the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS), including ex-Qantas pilot Peter Hanneman, flew the giant aircraft to Illawarra Regional Airport in NSW where its restoration will be completed and the plane will become a flying museum.  Other members of the crew accompanied the flight team in HARS’s restored DC-3 aircraft.  It was the first time in decades that DC-3 and DC-4 aircraft (both long-serving passenger airliners in Australia) had shared the skies.
