The preferreddestination

Facilities

With the largest number of general aviation movements of all Queensland airports, Archerfield Airport is home to the most aviation operators and flying schools in the state, and has accommodated the largest number of helicopter movements in Australia since 2018.

We are located just 11km south of the Brisbane CBD and provide facilities and maintenance for over 200 aircraft. This, along with its proximity to Stradbroke, Moreton and Fraser Islands, has made Archerfield Airport the preferred destination for corporate aircraft, charter, flying training and a wide variety of maintenance expertise.

Presently, there are 70 hangars on airport, including a new $25 million maintenance facility for LifeFlight. Over 80 businesses on site employ hundreds of people. A wide range of services includes flying schools, the historic passenger/administration building and the control tower.

Archerfield Airport has over 50 hectares of greenfield sites that can be developed for both aviation and non-aviation purposes.

Our recently reconstructed and lengthened main runway expands Archerfield’s operational capabilities and enhances our multi-configuration runway system to provide two parallel runways in two different directions.

  • Parallel 10/28 runways both feature complementing full-length taxiways with sealed pavements
  • The main runway, 10L/28R, and its supporting taxiway, are both equipped with pilot-activated lighting, including RTILs and PAPIs, to aid nighttime flying.
  • Crosswind parallel grass runways, 04/22, and associated taxiways both feature sealed runway thresholds.

Our Passenger Lounge is located on the ground floor of the historic Terminal Building. Enjoy air-conditioned comfort in a lovingly restored retro lounge environment and peruse the curated showcase of the rich history of Archerfield Airport.

The Washdown Bay, conveniently located at site 032, north-west of the Terminal Building, is the designated area for aircraft washing. This facility is equipped with a water treatment system that effectively filters runoff, ensuring that contaminants do not enter the stormwater network.

To ensure proper use of the Washdown Bay, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been developed, providing clear guidelines for the safe and efficient cleaning of aircraft.

For the convenience of airport users, we offer a long-term car parking facility for fly-away users, for a set fee. Visitors and short-term parking is available for free (for a maximum of 12 hours). Please note that this is subject to Airport User Rules and Conditions of Use. For more information application forms can be found here

A PIN code system exists at all pedestrian gates on the Airside/Landside boundary to prevent unauthorised access to Airside.

An automated PIN notification system allows airport users to gain access to PIN codes, 24/7. Registered users will need to send a blank SMS text message to ‘0414 233 902’ anytime they require the PIN code. The automated system will then send an SMS text message with the latest PIN code to that user’s mobile phone. The automated SMS text message will provide registered users with codes for both the Terminal Building and the pedestrian gates.

To alleviate security concerns regarding unlawful entry from the landside, PIN-locking devices have been installed on both sides of the gates. Users will require a PIN upon entry and exit. The PIN will not be displayed at any of the gates except for the Airside entrance to the Terminal Building, which is opposite the visitor parking tie-down area adjacent Taxiway Hotel.

PIN codes may be altered at any time without notification for security reasons. Registered users will need to send an SMS text message to receive the new PIN if they find their old code no longer works.

To register your mobile phone, please complete the Pedestrian Gate Access online form below.

You do not need to be based at Archerfield Airport to apply. Visiting pilots are also welcome.

Application forms will be reviewed weekly by the Operations Committee. We will endeavour to process applications within 10 working days, however, insufficient information and/or missing details may cause delays. To expedite processing, please complete all relevant fields within the form and provide as much information as possible.

BE SEEN TO STAY SAFE.
The simplest and most effective way to stay safe Airside is to be seen.
Wear a reflective vest or high-visibility clothing to enable other people, pilots and drivers to see you. Your clothing can be very important in protecting you from everyday hazards in your workplace, so always make sure you wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times when working at the Airport. PPE includes boots, face masks, hard hats, ear plugs, respirators, gloves, safety harnesses and high-visibility clothing. IMPORTANT: It is mandatory to wear high-visibility clothing when working in the manoeuvring area.

The Civil Aviation Regulations 1998 Manual of Standards (Chapter 10.9) and the Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulations 1997 (Part 4) require Archerfield Airport Corporation (AAC) to implement control over the movement of persons and vehicles entering and operating Airside.

These measures are in place to improve safety and protect persons and/or property, improve the longevity of airport infrastructure and reduce the risks associated with drivers who are unfamiliar with the airside environment and/or aircraft operations. Any vehicle accessing the Airside areas of Archerfield Airport requires the driver to hold a valid Authority to Use Airside (AUA) permit for the vehicle and a valid Airside Driving Authority (ADA) permit OR to be escorted by a driver who does hold a valid AUA and ADA and has valid escort rights.

To apply for a vehicle escort, please read and complete the Vehicle Escort Application online form below.
